How to trigger flows from widgets

Updated over 2 months ago

💡 TL;DR

  1. Create your flow with “Exact match”

  2. Copy your exact match trigger phrase

  3. Create your widget copy on WhatsApp Widget Generator

  4. Paste trigger phrase in the “pre-filled” message field

  5. Launch!

1. Create a flow with “Exact match”

In this example, we’ll create a custom welcome flow that triggers from your website widget.

In Konvo, go to “Flows” and click on "Create Flow"

A new flow is automatically created with default settings

You can simply keep the settings on “Exact match”

In the “exact message” field, is where you create the trigger message of the flow.

This is the same message we’ll paste in the widget link.

Now, continue building the welcome flow as needed.

Don’t forget to Publish!

2. Creating the WhatsApp widget

To create a widget that activates a specific WhatsApp flow (exact match trigger), follow this structured process:

1. Create and Customize Your Widget in Konvo

  • Navigation: Go to Settings > Widgets in your Konvo account and create a new widget.

  • Preview: Use the live preview panel (right side) to visualize changes in real time.

2. Configure Messaging Elements

  • Teaser Message:
The initial text customers see on your website (e.g., “I have a gift for you” for welcome flows).

  • Welcome Message:
Appears when users click the widget bubble (e.g., “Join the channel to receive…”).

  • Call-to-Action (CTA) Text:
Customize the button text (e.g., “Claim Offer” or “Chat Now”).

  • Prefilled Message:
Auto-generated text sent when users open WhatsApp (e.g., “Hi! I want to activate the welcome flow”).

3. Style and Position the Widget

  • Design Options:

    • Icon: Display only the widget bubble.

    • Icon + Label: Include a short CTA text.

  • Positioning:

    • Auto-placement: Right/left side of the screen.

    • Manual adjustment: Use positive/negative pixel values (e.g., +20px to move right, -10px to move left).

4. Set Display Preferences

  • Page Rules:

    • Default: Show widget on all pages.

    • Custom: Display/hide on specific URLs (e.g., product pages only).

    • Template examples:

text/collections/* (all collection pages) /products/* (all product pages)
  • Delay Appearance:
Set a timer (in seconds) to control when the widget pops up.

5. Test the Trigger and Flow

  • Verify the Link:
Click the widget button to ensure redirection to WhatsApp.

  • Flow Activation:
Send the prefilled message to confirm it triggers the intended workflow (e.g., welcome flow).

Done!
